Miss Baranova Hello. I'm Tianluo_Qi (family name first), editor-in-chief of ArdaNEWS Studio, a non-profit fan-run organization devoted to promoting all Tolkien stuff in China. We are now maintaining a monthly newsletter and a more academic Tolkien-related translation column named “Translating Tolkien”.
We write to ask for your permission to translate your poetry "The Journal" in Mallorn 58 into Chinese. We will post our translation those onto four platforms under license CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 (if that is ok to you): 1) https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/ardanews, which is the website of our column in Zhihu, a website similar to Quora in China.
2) WeChat, basically an IM app like Skype or Line, but has a free-of-charge subscription mechanism via which users could receive posts from content providers like us.
3) Weibo, a social network like twitter.
4) https://trow.cc/board/showforum=95, the Tolkien subforum of T.R.O.W., a very famous Fantasy and Trpg forum in China.
You can visit the first and last websites even without an account, but the second and third ones demand you create one.
We may also republish the translations in these two other forms: 1) We may include some translations into a still-in-plan fanzine which we will explain in details below. 2) We may assemble our past translations every ten posts to form some kind of a book only for the convenience of the readers.
As of the fanzine, we, and some other Tolkien-related organizations in China want to publish a fanzine (seasonally, as for plan we have now) which contains three parts: 1) Ringer Fandom: news summary, activity report and other fan-related materials. 2) Tolkien Research: translated(under the permission of original authors and publishers) and original research articles concerning Tolkien. 3) Tolkien Art: drawings, poems, cosplay pictures and other fan-art other than secondarily created fiction which is unequivocally forbidden by the Estate.
Regrettably, however, as a non-profit organization, we are not able to pay you any royalty. But we will absolutely stress in our post that you are the original author, where this article was originally published and that what we do is just translation.
